URBAN ART IN POMEZIA
Walking through Pomezia
Walking through Pomezia, just behind the central Piazza Indipendenza, you come across the “Ugo Tognazzi” Civic Library.
From an aesthetic point of view it is an explosion of colours, it certainly does not reflect the classic and somewhat serious image we have of a place of culture such as a library.
Its external walls, in fact, depict the mural "L'Antiporta", a work of Urban Art by Agostino Iacurci which refers to an episode narrated in the VI book of the Aeneid, the meeting between the Trojan hero Aeneas and the Cumanan Sibyl .
Why exactly this theme? The artist wanted to combine the ancient history of this area with contemporary art. According to the myth, the hero Aeneas flees the burning city of Troy and, after a long and adventurous journey, lands on the Lazio coast. There are also many references to the masterpieces exhibited in the "Lavinium" Civic Archaeological Museum, another pearl of the city.
Among the visual references to Virgil's work we can mention the gates of the underworld and the golden branch that Aeneas must offer to Proserpina to access the Underworld.
Go all the way around the building and see if you can spot them!
“Vivere il Territorio” is a project of “Viaggio o Son Desta?”.
