Pratica di Mare airport

The Mario De Bernardi Military Airport, also known as Pratica di Mare Airport is located 30 km south of the city of Rome in the municipality of Pomezia, of which Pratica di Mare is a fraction. The airport is managed by the Italian Air Force and is not open to commercial traffic, there are many installations and offices of various Italian armed forces. With its width of 830 hectares it is one of the largest military airports in Europe. Founded in 1937 on the estate of Campo Ascolano, this historic airport was qualified as an air training ground and in the following years underwent continuous expansion and in December 1942 it became an Instrumental Flight School. During the Second World War, it was the scene of important historical events, such as the transit of Mussolini immediately after his release from Campo Imperatore.
